Here we explain what a biomechanical assessment is, what it involves, and how Codsall Healthcare can help you understand more about your movement and foot health.
A biomechanical assessment is a detailed examination of the way your body moves, focusing on your feet, ankles, knees, hips, and overall posture. It looks at how these areas work together when you stand, walk, or run. Even small imbalances can affect the way your body functions and may lead to discomfort or strain over time.
During the assessment, one of our podiatrists will take a full history of your symptoms before observing your posture and gait (the way you walk). This might include walking barefoot, in your usual footwear, or on a treadmill so we can see how your body moves in different situations. In some cases, additional tests such as joint mobility, muscle strength, or flexibility checks may be carried out.
The aim is to build a clear picture of how your lower limbs are functioning and to identify any irregularities or imbalances.
People come for biomechanical assessments for many reasons. Some experience persistent foot or leg pain, others notice discomfort during exercise, and some simply want reassurance that their body is moving in the most efficient way possible. A biomechanical assessment provides clarity, helping you understand what’s happening in your body and what can be done to support better movement.
At Codsall Healthcare, our podiatrists are highly trained in assessing and managing biomechanical issues. Following your assessment, we’ll talk you through the findings in clear, straightforward language and discuss the most appropriate next steps — whether that’s tailored exercises, footwear advice, or the use of custom orthotics. Our goal is to give you practical solutions that help you feel more comfortable and confident in your movement.
